Understanding the Basics of Microwave Antenna Designs

A microwave antenna is an electromagnetic transmission device used primarily to transmit microwave radiation from a source to a receiver in a clear and uniform manner. Also known as a microwave transceiver, antennas use the principle of selectivity in order to send microwave radiation. Antennas can either be permanent or portable in nature. Permanent antennas are designed to receive and emit microwave radiation from a fixed central location. Portable antennas are generally smaller in size and made to be used where space is at a premium.

There are two basic types of microwave antennas: single-side and double-sided. The single-sided microwave antenna transmits in only one direction. This type is usually installed inside the structure. A common place for a single-sided antenna to be installed is in the roof of a building. In order to maximize the directional range of a single-sided microwave antenna, the tip of the unit may be placed inside a cavity that is filled with a material that also acts as a reflector.

Microwave technology was originally developed for military purposes. However, modern day microwave antennas are heavily used by the public at large. Most commonly, people hear the term "microstrip" when they picture an antenna. Microstrip patches operate in the same fashion as conventional dipole antennas, but their signal is stronger and much more directional. These units are very popular in residential areas, as well as in offices on the ground plane of a structure.

One advantage that microstrip patch antennas have over other types of microwaves is the strength of their signal. Microwave is an electromagnetic energy that has the power to penetrate many barriers and can reach many remote objects. In comparison, a conventional dipole antenna will only have a directional ability to emit radiation. Because of this, microstrip patch antennas can provide much stronger signals than other types of units.

In order to use a microwave communication, it must be connected to a transmitting source through a physical wave. This physical wave is typically either through a cable or a microwave network. Some microwave antennas are designed specifically to work with certain types of transmitters; these types of units are called dedicated or point-to-point units. There are also less-specific designs, known as open-bands, which can be connected to multiple transmitters and channels with little modification.

As microwave antenna manufacturers, Shenglu has employed this microwave antenna technology into our various communication devices and chips to provide the excellent performance for users to experience outstanding internet. As the soaring development of modern intelligent information technology, we should combine this innovation with the rising online demands of this society.
